What Is Sparkling Tea? The New Way to Enjoy Tea

Tea doesn’t always have to be hot. Cold brewing tea directly in sparkling water creates a light, refreshing drink where bubbles bring a different texture to the tea.

Sparkling tea is a simple way to enjoy tea with a little more freshness. It is especially fun with teas that already have floral, fruity, or naturally sweet aromas.

What Tea Works Best for Sparkling Tea?

1. Lightly Roasted Oolong

Lightly roasted oolongs are one of our favorite choices. Their floral and fruity aromas can become even more noticeable when served cold and sparkling. Taiwanese high-mountain oolongs with naturally floral notes work beautifully: think fresh flowers, orchid, soft fruit, and a clean finish.

2. Green Tea

Green tea’s fresh, grassy, and slightly sweet character pairs naturally with the crispness of sparkling water. The result feels light and refreshing—almost like a different way of drinking iced tea.

3. Honey-Aroma Teas

Teas with naturally honey-like or fruity aromas can also be wonderful. Taiwanese honey-aroma teas already have a distinctive sweetness and ripe-fruit character. Cold brewing helps preserve these delicate aromas, while carbonation adds a lively finish.

How to Make Sparkling Tea

You don’t need a complicated recipe. Use chilled sparkling water and add the tea leaves directly to it.

Tea-to-water ratio: 1 g tea : 100 ml sparkling water

Step 1 — Prepare Your Sparkling Water

Start with chilled sparkling water. The colder the water, the more refreshing the final drink will be.

Step 2 — Cold Brew

Add the tea leaves directly to the sparkling water. Place it in the refrigerator and let it cold brew for 8–10 hours. Once it is ready, strain out the tea leaves and enjoy.

Because the tea is brewed directly in sparkling water, the finished drink has a naturally light and lively texture.

A lively way to enjoy tea

Cold brewing directly in sparkling water keeps the drink light and refreshing, while bubbles add a new texture to floral, fruity, and honey-aroma teas.

Keep It Simple—or Make It Your Own

Sparkling tea is delicious on its own. You can also add a slice of lemon, a little plum, or your favorite fresh fruit. The floral, fruity, or honey-like notes of the tea can create a completely different drink depending on what you add.

There is no single “right” way to make sparkling tea. Start with a good tea, add some bubbles, and see where it takes you.
